Hi Terri Hayes here. I will be giving Brandin assignments each week until the end of the year. I've worked with Brandin for a few years now, and I know she is very artistic so I would love to see her learn to papercraft and learn to document her stories, create cards for that big family of hers and create some home decor for her beautiful home!
I hope some of you will join Brandin on her papercrafting journey. Whether you are new to papercrafting yourself, new to using Webster's Pages or an existing Webster's Pages papercrafter who just wants to have fun, we would love for you to participate either by joining us for the challenges (challenges for you, assignments for her lol), or just by adding some encouragement to Brandin as goes through this process.
Assignment 1: Choosing a Style
My first assignment for Brandin is to choose her style. I think it helps to create a scrapbook page when you have some idea what kind of page you want to create. Do you like graphic pages, layered/decorative pages, traditional pages, whimsicial pages, shabby chic pages, etc? This is the question for Brandin. Of course these style can be combined and as she goes along she can change or add-on to her style, but this will give her a frame of reference for creating her first page (coming soon!).
To help Brandin choose a style, I am starting with two suggestions:
- Look through galleries. The Webster’s Pages inspireME gallery is a great place to start: http://websterspages.ning.com/
- Look at idea books. I recommend and am dropping this one off for Brandin: Find Your Groove: A Guide to Discovering Your Scrapbook Style by Kitty Foster and Wendy McKeehan.
Just a note about how this will process will work. Each week I will post a new assignment, while Brandin works on her weekly assignment during the week, our Webster's Pages design team will offer some tips on the current challenge and feedback on the last one, on the weekend Brandin will post her assignment results and talk a little about why she made the choices she did. Since she will be using Webster's Pages products on her assignments, she has decided to give away one product she used on her project each week. To enter just leave a comment on her Sunday post (the winner will be selected within the week).
Good luck Brandin!

Choosing a style..... hmmm, that's a difficult one!
I'm still discovering mine too:) But, like Terry says looking at other people's work will be great inspiration!!!! Wish you luck, Brandin;o)

This is very exciting!! Well, the very obvious choice would be 'shabby chic' or 'vintage' given the delicious WP products that Brandin will be working with! I cannot wait to be inspired by all the new and pretty eye candy to see here :)

Webster's Pages is my style. That is what a friend of mine told me last week. She said tha mywork was between the styling of Websters Pages and Grafic45 (which i have never used or even own anything of theirs). I still don't know what she ment by it.????????????

So excited to see how you may incorporate your own designs into a scrapbooking style.

Finding a style!!! That must be the part I left out - I just went to the store, bought some stuff, and started trying to make something out of it. I didn't know I was supposed to have a style back then - ignorance is bliss I guess. I have veered back and forth into this and that, but I tend to love anything with frills, lace, birds, bunnies, butterflies, etc - the "girly" look for the most part. Based on Brandin's wonderful creations, I suspect she's somewhere in the same ballpark! Can't wait to see what she decides on.

My style is definitely vintage, shabby cottage chic and Webster's is a natural choice for me! I've always said I'm just visiting here and really belong back in the early 1900's!!!! I love, love, love Graphic 45 too!!!!

I would say I have an eclectic style. I love a little of everything. I go with what I feel sometimes or what the photos call for. I appreciate all styles to some degree but generally gravitate towards shabby chic, vintage and grunge. Sometimes I like clean and simple, other times ornate with lots of embellies. As long as it's aesthetically pleasing with good design, then I like! : )

My style changes but it's always a relection of myself and what I think is beautiful.

Hmm style is a big question. I think it's something that is always evolving. It changes over time, with different products and depending on your mi=ood. lol.
My suggestion would be to look through WP gallery and find some layouts you love and then write down what it is you like about them. Keep those elements in mind when you set down to create.
Reach for your favourite colours and embellishments and
don't start with your favourite pics straight away.
Good luck,
Jeni (JOC)

With all the amazing product available from Websters, choosing the goodies to work with should be realitively easy...
now choosing your style......thats totally another adventure. I have been scrappin now for 6years and still don't seem to have struck one that is "ME". Good Luck for your challenge I am sure you will enjoy where it takes you.

Good luck, Brandin. Finding a general style is a great way to start. You'll certainly see a good selection in the gallery. Keep looking for pages you love, try to emulate techniques that you like and then soon your personal style will emerge! Can't wait to follow you on this journey. :)

Took me a while to find my style but it is definitely a shabby one.

I think as you scrapbook you find something that is pleasing to you and your style grows and evolves as you complete pages. I think the best way is to look through the gallery and make note of the pages that catch your eye and before you know it you are off and running. What a fun adventure!

Good luck this week.

I still don't know my "STYLE"......I kinda do what makes me happy!!!I am sure that will work for you too.

Honestly Brandon, I could not do what you do, designing the beautiful pages that keep us all addicted.
Therefore I would agree with one of the other posts I read. Webster's is my style. And that just may be yours. You are so talented already. You are just taking a leap into a new untapped area of the adventure we call paper rafting.

Whilst I love the shabby chic style it doesn't always flow with the photo so ... My style goes with the photo I am scrapping so it will vary - and then the difficult part is choosing all the beautiful papers and embellishments to match the photo
Good luck :)
